| Tasting
Notes: |
The
maturity of the vines (up to eighty years old) producing the
grapes from which this wine is made give the wine its powerful,
vigorous colour. The nose is initially predominated by wood,
giving way to notes of vanilla, roasted coffee and liquorice
and finally hints of cherry jam which is the mark of the Tinta
de Toro grape variety. On the palate, any sweetness quickly
gives way to a meaty structure then shows the mature fruit and
sweet tannins which define its robust character, finishing with
pleasant spicy notes.

| History: |
The
tradition of wine making has been handed down through numerous generations
of the Ramos family which has been working the lands in the Venialbo
area located in the southern part of the D.O. Toro. The variety of
the grape that is indigenous to the region, the Tinta de Toro, has
been cultivated by the family over many generations, some of the vines
used in production today are well over 80 years old.
The grapes are then harvested in the traditional manner; i.e. by hand,
and the wines are made by marrying old world skills with 21st century
equipment and methods.
The Bodega is currently being run by the father and son team, Ramon
Sr. & Jr. very much as a boutique vineyard which small enough
to give very detailed attention to every step of the wine making process.
As well as the red wines which are available from us, the Bodega also
produces white wines using indigenous grape varieties, namely Verdejo
and Malvasía. |
